California Surf

This summer Ceara, Laura, Lisa, and i changed rooms around so now Laura and Lisa share my room and Ceara and i share the other room. Ceara and i needed to come up with a theme for our room...we had plenty of idea, but the one idea that we really liked was the "California Surf" theme. i have an O'Neill shirt that has a scene of a sunset and waves and we decided to have that on our west wall. A little more planning and this is what we came up with and actually accomplished!

Our inspiration

Ceara and i painted the walls brown...i think mom was a little shocked at the colour at first! We normally don't have dark colours in our house because the darker the colour the smaller the room will appear...but this time i think it looks pretty good!

Ceara worked on the trimming! i rolled the walls and got as close as i could with the roller and then she went over with the most adorable short purple paintbrush! Those shorty paintbrushes are the best! She enjoyed helping with the room even if it was just trimming!
For the wall with the waves and the sun...i knew i wouldn't be able to paint with a steady hand so i taped the wall. Dad suggested going to the auto body shop and buying the tape they use to tape graphics on cars. That tape is the best! It is a rubber kind of tape and it curves so great i could do the waves in one piece of tape instead of a bunch of little pieces like normal tape. i have found my favourite tape!

Taping the sun rays! That was hard to get them all close to the same size! Notice the Hirshfield's shirt! After all it is Hirshfield's paint i used...that is the best paint!

Almost finished...painting the rays was the last thing i had to paint. i was starting to get really bored by this time...so i was talking to Brandon on the phone. i just put the earpiece in and tucked the phone upside-down on my waistband on the shorts and started painting again! We had a good phone conversation too!
Here is the completed wave! This little swirl is my favourite.
This is the wall after it is completed! The brown no longer makes the room appear smaller...not with the large waves and sun!

This is on the East wall...three large stripes that come to a point. It reminds me of an image from a surf board!

i was feeling a little creative and painted a smaller flower and vine by our window... free-handed!

Our room...with furniture in it now! We wanted more of the "surfer" look so we opted not to put our normal bed frames and headboards on our beds...just the mattresses on the floor...a neater look!
